What we're about

The Council of Independent Managers (CIM) welcomes you to our group. Located in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, we meet once a month to discuss a variety of issues, challenges and opportunities that we each face as managers of our respective small businesses.

For a typical monthly CIM meeting, we enjoy friendly camaraderie among us with dinner and a chosen table topic related to managing our businesses. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, beginning September through June. Our current members have businesses employing between 5 and 100 people. About two thirds are in manufacturing and one third are sales, service, or distribution.

If you are an executive officer and a top level manager of an independent business with an equity ownership in the business, CIM may be of interest to you!

How does CIM differ from other organizations?

Its monthly meetings are primarily discussion meetings specifically designed to assist the top person in an owner-operated company. It offers an opportunity to share and discuss mutual problems and opportunities with others in a similar position.

Frank and open discussions are possible as members are not in business that are directly competitive to each other.

Membership Requirements

It is the policy of this organization that its membership will be composed of individuals who own and manage independent entities and who meet (and whose businesses meet) the following qualifications:

• A member must be an executive officer and a top level manager of an independent business.

• The member must be an equity owner of the business.

• The business in which the member is employed must be involved for profit in manufacture, sales or distribution of services, must have more than one supplier and more than one customer, and may not compete significantly with the business of any other member of CIM.


Our group does require annual dues which support covering the costs for our Executive Secretary and monthly dinners. The annual dues are $750.00.
