Synthetic Biology, Biohacking and Vegan Cheese - iGEM team meeting

  • Aug 25, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Counter Culture Labs and our sister lab BioCurious in Sunnyvale are putting together a team for iGEM - the 10th international Genetically Engineered Machine competition. iGEM has been the premier breeding ground for synthetic biologists, and this is the first year they will also be accepting Community / DIYbio labs.

The topic we've chosen for our project is Vegan Cheese, expressing casein proteins in yeast - check out our wiki!

Feel free to come check us out, whether you are already part of the iGEM team or not. We're hoping to actually get work done in these meetings, so we will likely not give an extensive introduction to any newbies, but you're more than welcome to sit in and absorb some biohacking-in-action.  This is your opportunity to join a working iGEM team.

For now, we will be meeting every first Monday of the month at BioCurious, and the other Mondays in Oakland.

Hi, Ashley. I am so tired from today that a trek all the way to Sunnyvale just sounds exhausting (plus I don't have a ride yet). I hate to miss any lab work as this is the main reason I got involved in the project. Will the majority of the work be done tonight or do we have plenty more to do before iGEM?

Yeah, I saw Craig's e-mail. What a relief! (for me, at least). I was planing on going to the meeting tomorrow anyway so I'd be happy to put in a little sweat. Will you brief me there or do you want me to start planing something now?

I will, however, have to come a little after 7:00 (15-20ish).

Hey, is anyone driving to Biocurious from the East Bay tonight and able to take a passenger? I can pitch in for gas :)

Hey Rebecca, I'm driving but my car's already full. Anyone else driving?

I'm driving and was planning to leave Berkeley around 5:30.
