What we're about

This group is for persons who are interested in Salsa, Cha Cha, and Bachata dancing. Classes and events in the Comox Valley related to these dances will be posted on this site. There are several styles of Salsa dancing; this site is primarily interested in LA style (also called 'on 1') or Mambo style (also called 'on 2'). Announcements of dance parties in private homes may also be posted on this site. Dancers of all levels are welcome to join - from beginners to advanced. Also, no dance partner is required. It's best to post a photo so that other members can recognize you at events.

Men's solo footwork class

Needs a location

Emily Johnston is teaching a solo footwork class specially for men. Solo footwork in Salsa is called “Shines”. According to Eddie Torres, considered the godfather of New York style salsa dancing, salsa was originally all shines, and evolved to incorporate partner dancing. Currently, shines are still very important in salsa dancing. Salsa music is structured with a section specifically dedicated for shines (the Solo section).

Emily will be teaching the fundamental shines that you see on the salsa dance floor. These shines are a lot of fun and fairly easy to do. You'll also learn some fun choreography to integrate the skills you'll be learning. I highly recommend this class to take your salsa dancing to the next level.

Emily calls this class “Manstyling”. Thursdays, Nov 18 - Dec. 9. 4 weeks. 7:30-8:30pm. Location is her studio in Comox. $40.
