This group is for people who want to learn and perform improv comedy, both short-form, and long-form. We offer classes, workshops, and a student recital every other month.
No experience is necessary, and many people take improv who have no interest in acting but are looking for an excellent way to improve themselves in a variety of capacities. The experience and knowledge that you gain from participating in improv will enrich you in many unique ways. Some of the common benefits are:
• Increased Confidence
• Improved Public Speaking Skills
• Enhanced Acting Abilities
• Gained Comfort in Social Settings
• Refined Brainstorming Abilities
• Improved Listening and Observation Skills
• Enhanced Creative-Thinking Abilities
• Improved Decision-Making Skills
• Team Development Skills
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY (but we are always glad to have experienced players). We can take complete greenhorns and take them through the steps necessary to have at least cursory proficiency in improv skills.
The primary focus of many of the regular meetings is to build camaraderie and communication skills based on improv: Discover the basic vocabulary and techniques of the art of improv through scenes, games, and exercises in a fun, supportive environment.
Most of our meetings focus on Improv skill-building and rehearsal for a monthly or bi-monthly show at a local theater open mic setting. Performing on stage at the show is optional, but highly encouraged.
