Each week, Lisa leads the group through mindfulness practices and relaxation training as a prelude to intuitive/mindful/contemplative painting. ALL skill levels welcome!! ALL supplies are included!!
This group is helpful for those who struggle with stress or anxiety or for those just needing a quiet and safe place to create. It is not a substitute for therapy, but it's very therapeutic! Lisa spent 16 years as a professional counsellor before her career as an artist and musician. She has facilitated mindfulness training and relaxation as part of her work with past clients.
Lisa will do some teaching on the concepts of mindfulness and relaxation and will use breathing techniques, silence, writing, music, progressive relaxation and other methods to help you become still. The creative portion is more or less self-directed; however, Lisa can instruct with basic techniques to get you on your way to happily creating.... this group is focused more on the journey /process than the creative product, however! Process, not product!!
Please note -- this group is not focused on verbally dissecting or discussing life's little problems! It's a place to become more at peace and quieted within so that our creativity can flow out more easily in the moment... unencumbered by our over-thinking western mindset. What comes out in your art expression can be cathartic and will help you purge and work through issues in a more mystical, less direct way that often goes so much deeper than words!!
Runs weekly beginning Jan 16th... will not run June--Aug. You are not required to attend every week, but you must let Lisa know you are coming as space is limited and on first-come, first-served basis. You can buy a multiple session ticket, or pay when you come... your session card is only stamped when you attend and all sessions are self-contained. Of course, you will reap the most benefit if you can make it a regular part of your week! You deserve to take time for YOU!
