What we're about

This group is for anyone interested in Creative Writing. We host readings, workshops, and discussions. Some are free, some charge a small fee. Join us and you'll work with authors and experts to develop your skills, and you'll meet friends in our community who are writers, too.

All the events take place at Manhattanville College **EXCEPT that right now we are holding everything on ZOOM** These events are hosted by the Writers Hub, a non-credit writing community sponsored by the MFA Creative Writing Program at Manhattanville College. To everyone who attended regularly in the past and to those who may want to take advantage of this writing opportunity, the Friday afternoon writing sessions resume Friday, Nov. 5. The sessions will be organized just as they had been previously.

This is a generative writing session. You'll receive a prompt and write whatever that prompt inspires for 45 minutes to an hour. If you have a work in progress you prefer to work on during this time, you are free to ignore the prompt and do that instead. Writers will be invited to share their raw material with the group during the last part of the session, if they'd like to share (sharing is not required).

This is a great opportunity to escape the distractions of daily life and focus on writing. Whether it is your goal to produce new material that could lead to submissions and publication or feel the therapy of creativity and being with other writers, this writing session is a gift to yourself. Or, if anyone is planning to participate in NaNoWriMo, these sessions are starting just in time. So come equipped with a laptop or notebook and pen.

Sessions will be held at Barat House, Manhattanville College, 2900 Purchase St., Purchase, NY 10577. Parking is available.

PLEASE NOTE: MASKS ARE REQUIRED INDOORS AT MANHATTANVILLE COLLEGE.

FEE: $5 per session
No registration required.

The sessions will be moderated by Manhattanville MFA Alumna Maureen Amaturo, a New York-based fashion/beauty writer/columnist who teaches writing, leads Sound Shore Writers Group, which she founded in 2007, and produces literary events. Her fiction, creative non-fiction, essays, poetry, and comedy are widely published. Once named “America’s next Flannery O’Connor,” Maureen later was nominated for the Bram Stoker Award and TDS Fiction Award in 2020. At the 2009 Edgar Awards, she received a Certificate of Recognition for her efforts in promoting the works of Edgar Allan Poe. A handwriting analyst diagnosed her with an overdeveloped imagination. She’s working to live up to that.
