The Friday "Flash Fiction" meetup is designed to inspire your imagination. Our gatherings are small and light-hearted, and we meet every Friday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. We use impromptu story starters for several bursts of timed writing -- typically for 10 minutes at a stretch. During that time, you can write whatever you like: flash fiction, a scene for a short story, a dialogue, a poem, or a passage of your memoir. When the time is up, we usually share our results -- but sometimes we're on a roll, so we vote to keep going. This isn't a critique group. There's no pressure to perform. Our only goal on Friday mornings is to write freely, and have fun in the process.
Self-Publishing Sundays start with a 15- to 30- minute presentation about self-publishing. After the discussion, we write. You can focus on your current work in progress, or unleash your imagination with prompts and story starters.
Our Writers' Workshops are designed for serious writers who are committed to publishing their work. Each session runs for eight weeks at a time, and the group is limited to six writers who agree to participate fully and enthusiastically. We meet once a week to share our current WIPs, offer constructive feedback, and discuss the business of publishing and promotion. Previous publication isn't a prerequisite; beginners are as welcome as professionals. You can apply for membership at any time.
The Creative Guidance Book Club. Stephen King said, “If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.” We discuss our favorite writing books in person at our meetups, and online at meetup.com/creativeguidance/messages/boards/forum/21958018.
Publishing Projects. Once a year, the Creative Guidance Writers Group will produce an anthology of our best work. Next year's anthology will be released in November 2017 -- just in time for holiday gift-giving! Click here for details and submission guidelines.
The Creative Guidance Coalition. Many of our meetings are synced with our sister group, the Creative Guidance Coalition of writers and self-publishers. We're especially focused on writers who plan to publish through CreateSpace.com and sell print books and ebooks on Amazon.com. That's because today's self-publishing technology has done more than open doors for would-be writers; it's blown the publishing world wide open, and it's created a level playing field for everyone who dreams of becoming an author. You don't need an agent or a high-powered publishing connection to see your name on the cover of a book. All you need is a laptop and the internet.
