"The Sea & Civilization: A Maritime History of the World" shows how the rise & fall of civilizations are linked to the sea. This history begins with early migrations, spans ancient seafaring, the Age of Sail & modern globalization of commerce, war & culture into the 21st century. The author discusses how goods, languages, religions & cultures spread via the world's waterways, & retells world history from the perspective of maritime enterprise.
"The Sea & Civilization" is cited as a stunning work of world history, by accomplished author & historian Lincoln Paine, who lectures on maritime history, & has published five well reviewed books on the subject. This is his most recent work, published in 2013.
Thursday, February 6, from 7:30-9:00, at Regional Visitor Center in Salem. Author Lincoln Paine will present "The Sea & Civilization." Co-Sponsored by Salem State University History Department & Salem Maritime National Historic Site. Part of the History Talks Series.
