Are you new to America?

No, but it almost felt that way when I first got back home.

Have you traveled or lived abroad before? Is so, where and how long?

Yes, I lived in Barcelona, Spain (and traveled Europe a bit) in the summer of 2006. Most recently, I just returned to the U.S. after 4 years of teaching English and traveling SE Asia, India, Nepal, China, etc. extensively. I'm still kind of going through the reverse-culture shock (or whatever you call being shocked by your own culture).

What do you hope to get out of this Meetup?

I'm so surprised and excited to find a group like this. It can be lonely coming back from living abroad for so long. People ask very broad questions like, "How was it?" and expect you to summarize 4 years of your life in an answer that is both something they can relate to and is under one minute long, or you end up getting that glazed over look of people who asked a question they don't really want the answer to. It's hard to find people to talk to who understand what it's like. It's weird to come home and see some things have stood still while you were gone and some things are completely different. I think I've found the thing that changed the most is me. Now I'm trying to find my place here. I think a group like this is such an awesome form of support, not to mention a great way to meet travel/cultural-minded new friends. I'm super excited about it!

What is your favorite ethnic food or place to visit? Feel free to give detail if you can name one.

Blues and greens (and any mixture of the two). It reminds me of nature.

Hi! I just returned to the States this month after living in Korea for 4 years and traveling around Asia. I'll be moving to Kalamazoo, MI and am new to the area.
