• How Can We Survive This Age of Anxiety? Let's Learn From the Wisdom of Buddha

Hello and welcome to our Buddhism meetup everyone! If you have ever wondered about the following questions, you’ll benefit from our meetup sessions: What's the point of my life repeating the same activities day in, day out? Who am I? Why is it that my happiness in life never lasts? I've done many kind acts but they all have backfired on me. What else should I do? Is life a series of gains and then losses? Why do we hear so many bad news? How to live a fulfilling life in spite of the negativity that surrounds us. Buddhism is a practice and it is actually through practice that you learn how it empowers your life to be all that you can be and reach your full potential. A good teacher is necessary to walk us through the process. First and foremost, listening to the unchanging Dharma is the key. Join us for an informal introduction session and let's get to know each other. If you have questions about how Buddhism helps with a particular situation in your daily life, feel free to send a message to me and I will make sure to cover them one by one as we advance in our studies. This meetup event is free to attend but donations are gladly accepted to help us sustain these outreach activities. In Buddhism, donations are not measured by the amount but by your desire to contribute to a cause greater than ourselves. Please buy a drink or food from this Panera Bread since we use their space to show our gratitude and reciprocity. Also not mandatory, but I suggest the following book for our meetup studies if it's possible for you to get it: https://www.amazon.com/Plant-Seeds-Happiness-Flowers-Bloom/dp/0989847713 Also if you're new to Buddhism, it helps if you watch this video on Buddhism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knnnnhSx2fg Last but not the least, if you're interested but have a schedule conflict, please email me at [masked]. Also we provide online Dharma Talks on Saturdays 3 PM to 4 PM. For easy instructions as to how to join us, please contact me. If you'd like to receive our free newsletters, please let me know your email address. Have a great one everybody and looking forward to meeting you soon.

  • What can we learn from the Buddha on how to be happy?(This meeting is online.)

Hello, and welcome to our Culver City Practicing Buddhism Meetup! If you’re interested in (1) exploring what tips and tools Buddhism has to offer on the road to happiness, and (2) meeting (first session on Skype & later sessions at a cafe) other like-minded folks on the same path, then you’re in the right place. Over the next few months, (in sessions hosted by Bita) we’re going to explore some of the tools Buddhism has to offer when it comes to happiness. We’ll talk about… ---What Buddha says is the first step toward happiness ---How false/limiting beliefs cause an incredible amount of (unnecessary) suffering ---The difference between relative happiness (happiness that is fleeting or temporary) and absolute happiness (happiness that does not crumble or abandon you) ---Understanding the basic ideas around karma so you can live a life filled with empowerment and passion instead of overwhelm and sadness ---Where you might be on the path to happiness (aka enlightenment) compared to those around you, and how knowing this information can help make dealing with those ”more challenging” folks in your life easier ---How the ‘5 Desires’ (food, wealth, sex, etc.) fit into a happy life ---Examples of ways to apply the above concepts, on a daily basis, to minimize suffering and increase happiness No one needs to settle for feeling sad, unsuccessful, miserable, or lost. We all deserve to flourish and be happy. Everyone’s path is a little different but we’re all heading in the same direction, so let’s put our heads together and see what we can do! NOTE: This meetup will be hosted by Bita & Yuichi. LOCATION AND DETAILS This meetup happens to be on Skype though most of our meetups generally take place at a cafe in one of the cities of LA or in San Diego. Skype is a free software you can download and all you have to do is either RSVP here and I'll ask for your "Skype contact address" or just let me know if you're already familiar with Skype. My Skype contact address is Bita Asakura. If you need help downloading the Skype, call me at (424)[masked] please. This meetup is free to attend but donations are gladly accepted. Donations in Buddhism are not measured by the amount but by the desire to contribute to a cause greater than ourselves. Thanks for stopping by and checking out the group here on meetup.com. I look forward to meeting you in person in the near future. =) PS. The picture you see above is from our annual Buddhism retreat in Toyama, Japan this year taking place from October 16 to October 28. Ask me for more information please if you find it something of interest to you.
