A HIKING CULINARY & SIGHTSEEING ADVENTURE IN UMBRIA & TUSCANY

Join us for a hiking, culinary and sightseeing trip through the amazing Umbria and Tuscany regions of Italy. The hikes themselves are not long and are relatively easy, the focus of the trip is to combine nice countryside hikes with a taste of the culture, history, scenery and culinary flavours of an amazing part of Italy.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 MONDAY, October 14th: Arrival in Italy and transfer by private coach to the hotel in Umbria. Welcome drink and dinner in the Hotel.

DAY 2 TUESDAY, October 15th: Perugia/ Urban Trekking (10 km approx 4-5 hours including stops)

Led by a local hiking guide we’ll discover the most important monuments of the town and hidden corners of the capital city of Umbria, off the beaten track to learn about the Etruscan origin of the city, the medieval alleys and the huge cathedral

DAY 3 WEDNESDAY, October 16th - Montefalco - Bevagna (10 km)

Departure by coach to Montefalco. Here we’ll start our walk to Bevagna through vineyards and olive groves (3-4 hours, 10km).

Arrive in Bevagna, where beautiful Roman mosaics are preserved and some workshops where we’ll see how paper, leather & candles were prepared during the middle ages. We’ll also visit an amazing square and a wine estate for wine tasting.

DAY 4 THURSDAY, October 17th – Lake Trasimeno / Tuscany (8-10km)

Before saying goodbye to Umbria we’ll discover the beauty of its famous lake, the biggest in central Italy. Panoramic tour by coach along the coast. Arrival in Castel Rigone, a fantastic little hamlet on the dominant hill over the lake.

Hike to Passignano Sul Trasimeno, a fishermen’s village. Arrival in Passignano and transfer by coach to a typical organic farm where oil and wine are produced.

Lunch with a rich “antipasto”, handmade noodle, dessert (plus wine), then transfer to Tuscany. Arrival at the hotel in San Quirico d’Orcia, where a fantastic wine tasting session with local delicacies awaits

DAY 5 FRIDAY, October 18th: San Quirico d’Orcia/ Bagno Vignoni (10 km)

Walk to the wonderful Bagno Vignoni, an old thermal village along the old Francigena way (the pilgrims’ route that takes us from Canterbury to Rome), then along vineyards, through the old Vignoni Alto where a medieval castle dominates the valley. Arrival in Bagno Vignoni.

DAY 6 SATURDAY, October 19th: Pienza

Depart for Pienza, the town of Pope Piccolomini. Visit the cathedral and the Palazzo of the Pope. Pienza is also known as the town of Pecorino cheese. We’ll visit a local cheese factory and taste the local produce with some wine. Afternoon at leisure. Farewell dinner in Hotel

DAY 7 SUNDAY, October 20th: Departure by private coach to the airport
