• 1101 - Open Mic/Workshop Night
Hey Shad0ws! This month we are going to have another workshop and open mic night. This time around, we have two amazing guest speakers Mandy and Sean! Mandy's presentation is titled "Hacking Brainstems, Hacking Threats: Zero Day Experience Inside" as she discusses her experience with having to "hack" her brain and body using the body's electrical system to create and flesh out an entirely new internal platform to recover from Brainstem Stroke and major traumatic brain injury! This is a truly inspiring story that you won't want to miss! Sean will be presenting on an interesting subject, but has asked to keep the topic secret until meetup day. so you have to come and find out what it is! Outside of that, Open workshop and mic nights are dedicated to collaboration! So what is an open workshop/mic night? I am glad that you asked! Are you working on a pet project, but running into problems? Don`t fret! Bring your project to the meetup and let's see your fellow Shad0ws can assist! Are you looking to start a project and would like to work with members of the group? Awesome, bring your ideas to the meetup and discuss it with fellow Shad0ws! Do you have an interesting discussion or topic you want to inform or teach the group about? We want to know and the mic is open for you to step on stage and talk about it, it can literally be a 5-minute talk or however long you want! We are hoping that this kind of meetup will really get the innovation juices flowing as we help each other through technical problems and come together to plan something huge! If anyone has any recommendations on projects we can do as whole or even thoughts about how we can make the group better, bring them to the meetup and let`s talk. Like we always say, this group is for all of us and we are all representations of the group. The more we all pitch in with ideas and suggestions to make this group better, the more we will flourish and grow! • What to bring Anything you need to work on for your pet project or a project that you want to propose to the group!

  • 1100 - Splunk 101 Workshop
In the past few years, machine data has been the new hotness in the IT and Cybersecurity world. With all electronic devices constantly receiving, generating, and sending data, it becomes quite the task to capture, store and monitor all of it. This is where a centralized data storage platform comes in. One of the largest/prominent, if not the largest/prominent, data platforms out there is none other than Splunk! We would like to introduce to you our very special guest speaker, and fellow Shad0w Synd1cate member, Lee Goodrich! Lee is a Consulting Engineer with ClearShark and an accredited Splunk Professional Services Consultant. Lee has a combined 15 years of IT, Network, Telecomm, and Military Radio / Satcomm experience. We will be going over the following topics: -What is Splunk? -The Major Use Cases For Splunk -Splunk Components -Pricing Model -Splunk Apps and Add-ons -Common Splunk Commands And More! To include, a full hands-on workshop will be followed after the presentation that will help you solidify what you learned. It will include the following: -Ingesting Data Into Splunk -Utilizing Splunk's Search Processing Language (SPL) To Retrieve Meaningful Data If you have ever been interested in Splunk or machine data platforms in general, you won't want to miss this amazing event! • Shad0w Synd1cate 1 Year Anniversary!!
Our fellow Shad0ws, It is incredible to say that this month marks our one year anniversary as a group! In such a short amount of time, we have accomplished a ton and have grown exponentially! We want to thank each and every one of you for being a part of this wonderful group and growing with us. Without you all, this group would cease to exist or just be another random group that no one cares about. In lieu of celebration, we decided that for this month's meetup, we would just have a good time and hang out! The plan is to meet up at GameWorks located in Town Square. GameWorks should provide a little bit of something for everyone whether it be the drinks, the food, or the vast amount of games to play! To include, everyone who comes will be given a limited edition Shad0w Synd1cate 1 year anniversary pin! So come and join us as we celebrate this amazing accomplishment! Appetizers will be provided by our wonderful sponsor ISSA-LV!

  • 1010 - Hacking Hacker Summer Camp (i.e. DEF CON, BSides, etc.)
Hey Shad0ws! As we are getting close to the Hacker Summer Camp week (BSidesLV, Black Hat, DEF CON, and more) we know that for many these events can be overwhelming. With so many things to do, so many people to meet, and so many places to go, we wanted to provide you with some tips and get you prepared for the madness! You've heard the rumors about not taking your cell phones or laptops to these cons due to security concerns, and if you do take them to make sure that everything is turned off. These ideas may be a little farfetched, but security is very important and, just like anything else, preparation will take you a long way. A major benefit of all these conferences is networking! You get to meet a lot of the most talented people in many of their respective security fields, so we will also touch on networking and how to make the best impression you can. OVERVIEW OF THE PRESENTATION: - Cell phone preparation - Laptop preparation - BSides o Logistics (parking, eating, line cons) o Talks o Networking, events, parties - DEF CON o Logistics (parking, eating, line cons) o Villages o Talks o Networking, events, parties - Getting involved - Tailoring the experience for yourself - Safety - Member Recommendations These conferences provide some of the best ways to get involved in our industry and really help to ignite your passion for security. Shad0w Synd1cate wants you to have the best time you can and be prepared as well. Even if you're not planning on going but would like to go sometime in the future, this talk is for you. You won't want to miss it! FOOD & REFRESHMENTS: We will have food and drinks catered courtesy of our new amazing sponsor ISSA of Las Vegas! Thank you ISSA-LV!!

  • 1000 - How to Get into the Field of Cybersecurity
We have been asked numerous times by different members the question "How does one get into cybersecurity?" or, "I don`t know much about cybersecurity, but I am really interested in it. Where do I even begin to learn more?". These are the key questions for many, and our group was instilled on the goal of spreading as much information in regards to cybersecurity and IT as possible in order to help people gain more knowledge and in turn boost their careers in the field. We are excited to say that this month's meeting will be on that very topic; How to get into the field of cybersecurity! We are excited to announce that we will be having a guest speaker for this meetup! We graciously welcome Chad Lewis to Shad0w Synd1cate! Chad Lewis has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to cybersecurity and IT. With over 25 years of experience, Mr. Lewis has seen it all. He worked in special operations and intelligence communities as well as offensive cybersecurity while in the Marine Corps, ultimately serving as Operations Chief for the Marine Corps Red Team. He retired from the Marine Corps after a respectful 20+ years of service with the rank of Master Sergeant. He is currently the Cyber Security Manager at Mission Support and Test Services, LLC where he is responsible for cybersecurity over the Nevada National Security Site. You won`t want to miss this event! With our panel of presenters, you will get the different vantage points of how each of them managed to enter the world of cybersecurity. So bring your notepad and pen (Or a laptop, we are geeks for goodness sakes! What is a notepad anyways?! :)) and be prepared to get some good insight that will help you on your journey to getting into the realm of cybersecurity.
