Deutschland-A tour of Germany!

And finally, here´s our yearly international tour! We´ve been to France, Belgium and Holland so this time we thought we´d try something new heading to Deutschland. The tour will start in Koln and initially take us along the middle section of the Rhine river upto Bingen cycling along magnificent scenery and cultural treasures. Being a fan of Riesling wine I could not avoid the temptation of heading to the German wine region. This part of the tour will see our two wheels along unspoilt forests and steep vineyards carepeting the Moselle river valley slopes. This combination of riverside and highland scenery will make the journey incredibly varied. We will have flat stretches as well as hillier bits. The trip is likely to finish in Koln although the final mapping is yet to be done.

This is the deal:

*7 days cycling with probably one full day (or half day) exploring a vineyard (no, getting drunk is not part of the deal and will only happen at the owners risk :-)!!)

*Transport will be with Eurostar via Brussels (approx 6hs). Accommodation will be in hostels many of which are old castles...can you figure yourself sleeping in one?

*Daily mileage will vary. Along the Rhine we will do 80/100 miles a day given the flat terrain. Along the wine region we will reduce that to probably 70 miles a day in order to enjoy our surroundings and have time to stop along the way.

*Exact cost will depend on final number of attendees but I estimate £150 for transport including cost of bike spaces + £150 for accommodation. While this is a rough estimate, final figures are likely to be less rather than more. I do not charge any fees for organising this event. Of course, you will need extra cash for your day to day expenses.

*PLEASE RSVP NOW IF YOU CAN DEFINITELTY ATTEND. If you are unsure drop me an email DO NOT RSVP.

Before you hit the RSVP please note the following DO's and DON'Ts

*You should be able to take a week off work. The event will last for one week and one weekend. THE START DATE IS NEGOTIABLE AMONG ATTENDEES AS LONG AS IT STARTS BETWEEN 10/9 AND 24/9

*You can only join us for this event if you have already cycled with us on one of our day events.

*Once you transfer the money to pay for the trip you won´t be able to get a refund if you need to drop out. All fares are NON-REFUNDABLE.

*You won't be allowed to ride with us without a helmet

Looking forward to getting the international team started!

Hi all, I've got a hybrid bike. Is this ride only suitable with a road bike?

    • Bea

Hi Ankur, a hybrid would be suitable but please note that in order to join us on this holiday you must have cycled with us in the past.

Just thought should share/show you this website for your trip http://www.warmshowers.org/ Could be useful for finding a cheap, even free stay if you're lucky. I am using it for a trip I am planning for Holland instead.
Shame I have never cycled with this group; but hopefully someday you'll do something is not too early in the morning... ;-)
