New Meetup: Cambridge to Grafham Water - 60 Miles

Announcing a new Meetup for Cycling Meetup Group!

What: Cambridge to Grafham Water - 60 Miles

When: Saturday, November 13,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Kings Cross Railway Station
Euston Rd NW1 2QP

Sorry about the early start, but daylight is now limited!

This circular ride (on tarmac throughout, apart from a few miles on an off-road cycle route, but an all road alternative route is available) from Cambridge out to Gratham Water and back is based on rides I have done a few times before and can highly recommend. There is little traffic once away from the towns as we leave the historic university town via the superb cycle route network, then traverse the flat rich farmland of Cambs, then the open rolling countryside of Beds, before taking in the cycle route around the relaxing waters of the reservoir. I plan a late morning tea stop, as well as a pub lunch.

I have scheduled it for a Saturday, due to the better train service and less engineering works compared to Sundays. We also have the Sun to recover before most of us have to return to work!

Meet at the main ticket office of Kings Cross national rail station BEFORE 09:00 to sort out tickets in good time to catch the 09:15 train to Cambridge (departs from platform 9). Alternatively, meet at Cambridge station concourse (where I will meet the group) in time to meet the train's arrival at 10:02. Train tickets to be bought on the day (Off-Peak Day Return) - please bring cash to assist this - for guidance, depending on how many cyclists turn up, a Groupsave 4 ticket will be ?10 each and Groupsave 3 / railcard tickets will be ?13.20 each. Bring your railcard if you have one to get 1/3 off for any odd extra persons! A VOLUNTEER REQUIRED TO CO-ORDINATE RAIL TICKETS PLEASE!

The estimated finish time back in Stevenage is before dark at 17:00, but there is the option of leaving the ride after lunch (30m), by taking the train back to London from Huntington.

Obviously bring an suitable bike (with lights, as will be getting dark by end of ride), appropriate clothing for the weather, spare inner tube, pump, lock(s) and food / drink.

This ride will be at a sociable pace (~14mph), but is graded moderate, due to it's length.
