50 miles, C to B pace
The ride will start at 9:15 sharp, so please try to arrive at the parking lot no later than 9:00 so you will have time to get ready. Please remember this is summer in Virginia and we will be out during the heat of the day. Individuals that are heat sensitive should check the weather forecast for Surry before attempting this ride.
Meet Jack and members of the Richmond and Williamsburg Area Bicyclists behind the Surry Government Center, located on School Street just off Rt. 31/10 in the town of Surry. We will ride on the quiet back roads of Surry and Sussex Counties to Waverly. The ride distance is 50 miles over relatively flat terrain. Jack will ride at a "C+" pace (about 14 MPH average) and Chuck will ride slightly slower with the "no drop" group. Maps and cue sheets will be available for those who wish to ride faster.
There will be a rest stop in Waverly at a store with rest rooms available at mile point 26 and another stop on the return trip at Union Church.
After the ride all riders are invited to have lunch at Anna's in Surry.
From Richmond take I-95 or I-295 to Rt. 10 east. Continue east on Rt. 10 through Hopewell. The town of Surry is about 30 miles east of Hopewell. Shortly after you enter Surry turn right on School Street (route 1002). The parking lot is on the left behind the county government building.
