** NOTE: I've changed the starting venue to CEDAR Creek, at 1034 W 20th Street. This will place us closer to the center of the action than last year. It's very similar to Onion Creek, and owned by the same people **
WEAR WHITE -- TRUST ME :)
"White Linen Night in The Heights started in 2006 at the suggestion of New Orleans native and then Hurricane Katrina transplants Chris Thayer and his wife, Kay, who had opened a boutique on 19th Street when they were displaced by the storm. The event was patterned after a similar event in The French Quarter Arts district in New Orleans where residents came out dressed in their white linen finest to see local art. The Thayers and the Heights First Saturday group organized the event as a way to promote interest and traffic to 19th street so local businesses could thrive in the hot Houston summer. White Linen Night in the Heights is open to the general public with no admission fee."
Basically, this is one HUGE street party in arguably the coolest section of Houston. You'll find an eclectic mix of all different kinds of people, young and old, and many other Meetup groups there as well.
White Linen Night in The Heights takes over the 200 and 300 blocks of 19th Street. The street will be packed with art displays, live music, wine tastings, shopping specials, food trucks, party atmosphere, beer tents, and some of Houston’s best summer people watching. If you ever wanted to dance in the street -- here's your chance!
Parking is all along 19th and 20th Streets, but can be a challenge, even an hour early. For best results, carpool or use Uber.
Attendance will not be taken for this event. It would be impossible! Still, please RSVP only if you plan to come.
