What we're about

There are no indoor or outdoor archery ranges inside DC city limits, but there are a few great opportunities for avid archers to shoot in nearby MD and VA. This group is for archers who want to participate in target practice, meet other archers, and join in other fun events. The group is open to all ages, skill levels and styles of archery.

We highly recommend that everyone reads and understands our club policies and range etiquette found on our message board here: https://www.meetup.com/DC-Archery-Club/messages/boards/

We have regular shooting practice once a week at the Lake Needwood archery range near Rockville at 1 PM on Saturdays. Other events are announced on the meet up site sporadically as well.

If you are a beginner, free first-timer lessons start promptly at 2pm and go until 4pm. Please make sure to RSVP in the comment section or contact a group organizer so we can make sure we have enough equipment, and arrive AT LEAST 15 minutes early so we can get you set up. If you RSVP to the meetup, but do not comment to let us know you are in need of equipment or lessons, you will be asked to come back another day. Our arsenal is limited but we'll do our best to make sure all beginners have a bow during lesson time.

George is kind enough to provide and maintain targets, loaner equipment and snacks, so ALL participants, especially those using his equipment, are highly encouraged to donate to his equipment-maintenance & tasty snack fund. If you don't have cash, you can Venmo your donation to @GeorgeDCA.

See you at the range!

Annual 3D Charity Shoot

Heart of Maryland Bowhunters Club

Hey Guys! It's that time of year again - our annual charity 3D shoot the benefits Veterans through NPLB Outdoors (www.NPLBoutdoors.org). Here are the details:

-What is a 3D? A 3D competition is made up of 30 3D foam animal targets that are dispersed through an outdoor range. We will hike from one to the next and you will get one shot at each target.

-Arrive at the Heart Of Maryland Bowhunters Club (about an hour away from the DMV) at 8:30 to register and practice. We will then start the competition at 8:45 sharp. We will divide into groups no larger than 5 people.

-Duration - this competition normally takes 3-4 hours for us to complete

-Lunch to follow - Facci Italian Restaurant - 11095 Resort Road, Ellicott City, MD 21042

-Fee - the $15 fee for the competition should be brought in CASH and all proceeds will go to the charity.

-Things you need to bring/wear:
>>It will be very hot, but we recommend wearing long, thin pants if you don't want to get scratched hiking through the woods. Also, wear hiking boots and your DC archery club shirt.
>>Snacks and lots of water
>>binoculars if you have them
>>your crappiest arrows. You will lose a few, don't bring arrows you will cry over!
>>pro-tip - rub the bottom half of your arrows with a bar of soap so that they are easier to retrieve out of the foam animals

See ya there!
