Robotics Day @ National Museum of the Marine Corps

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Christopher Vo at [masked], using subject line "Volunteering at NMMC", so I can add you to the list of volunteers.

We are looking for volunteers to demo and speak about their drones at the National Museum of the Marine Corps Robotic Technology Day. Help teach kids about the fun and potential of this technology that we are all passionate about. We had a great time last year and this year should be just as fun. We are looking for some folks to bring their FPV systems, the kids really enjoyed looking through the goggles or looking at the screens. This is one of the most impressive museums that honor the Armed Forces. The National Museum of the Marine Corps has World-class interactive exhibits using the most innovative technology to surround visitors with irreplaceable artifacts and immerse them in the sights and sounds of Marines in action. Bring your family and enjoy the day.

Hi all, just curious to know if this event is mainly in-door or outside. Tomorrow would be 94F. Stay cool!

Cool, I just sent you a PM. I'll also bring some sensors (camera for optical flow; sonar for distance) to show. Gotta hit the road in an hour ....

Folks, we are at Franklin Park in Purcellville, VA. Any spots you recommend to fly drone?

Greetings Sahar, will you be bringing a Flying Robot Project to show off at Robotics Day? I only ask because the subject matter of this meetup is for Robotics Day at the United States Marine Corps Museum. Anyway, you reside outside the FRZ so really just about anywhere that isn't explicitly prohibited and following safe practices.

Some parks are being unreasonable and putting up signs indicating you cannot fly there. Bless Park near Ashburn is an example of a recent park that added signs. Sad, because this used to be a nice spot to fly. Ida Lee Park in Leesburg is supposedly allowing an area of the park to be for RC UAV use, but there is a waiver and rules to it's use.(I have not gone to see this yet.)

Many thanks David. Indeed we went to Franklin park and were told at the visitor center that flying there was not allowed. We will investigate Ida Lee and keep you posted on the waiver.
      Thanks again.
      Sahar and William
