I would dearly like to get involved but I have Hypothermia duty that afternoon and evening. If someone can get me up to speed on what's going on, I will try and fit in.

Jim, do you have an email address where I can reach you? I can tell you what I recall of the meeting via email, if that works. Some highlights of the meeting, though, were (1) that we are planning to devote the next membership meeting to consideration of different candidates in the DC primary in April, (2) that many of us hope to attend a showing of the Nelson Mandela movie "Long Walk to Freedom" in early February, (3) that the Socialist Salon originally scheduled for Jan. 16 has been canceled, and that the next Salon will occur the 4th Thursday in February, not the 3rd Thursday as usual. Topic will be trends in US wages for workers in general and for women workers in particular. Let me know if you need more.

Jim -- another thing announced at this membership meeting was that some DSA members -- maybe a lot -- will participate in the annual Martin Luther King walk in Anacostia. This year the march will occur Jan. 20 and start near the United Black Fund building at 2500 Minnesota Ave. SE, which is right across the street from the Anacostia Metro Stop. It's scheduled to begin quite early, but probably will begin later than scheduled, like most DC political marches. Last year several DSA members marched in the parade with our banners and signs expressing support for DC statehood. I expect this year will be much the same, but with a bigger DSA turnout. You might contact chapter member Bill Mosley for details.

This was a great meeting, I thought. Partly because of the 20 people who eventually turned up, partly because of the different presentations. It was great seeing everyone.
