10-37 miles march from Roosevelt Island to Mt. Vernon to celebrate the birthday of our very first president of the United States, George Washington.

The Mount Vernon Trail is an 18-mile paved multi-use trail that stretches from George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate to Theodore Roosevelt Island.

Time line and Trail Head/Joining place & time:

6:00am Meet at Trail Head at Roosevelt Island parking lot near the foot bridge entrance.

Other official join points: Call me to find out where we are, so you can join us at other points.

There are many metro stations close to the trail: Arlington Cemetery, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, and Rosslyn Metro stations. You can look at the Google map to find out details.

6:40am: Gravelly Point parking lot near the potty/BBQ table area. Free parking.
8:40am: Meet at Starbucks coffee shop at the corner of King Street and Union street
10:00am: Belle Heaven Park in front the bathroom house/water pump area.
12:00: Mt. Vernon Visitor Center.
12:00 to 2:00pm: Free time. Lunch and visit the Mt. Vernon.
2:00pm Walk back.

Too tired? You can bail out at 10 miles by walking to King street metro.

Too tired to walk back? You can take Fairfax Connector bus back to Huntington Ave metro station; or walk back to Old Town to take metro from King Street metro station.

Parking: Visitor parking is always free at Mount Vernon. There are parking lots on the east and west sides of the George Washington Memorial Parkway as you approach the entrance. If these parking lots are full, you will be directed to an overflow parking lot.

Bus: Take Metrorail's Yellow Line to Huntington Station. Exit at the lower level of the station (Huntington Avenue) to catch a Fairfax Connector bus to Mount Vernon.

Board the Fairfax Connector Bus #101, the Fort Hunt Line, for a 20-minute trip to Mount Vernon's entrance gate.
