dcjq[5] node.js What is it, how does it work and what can I use it for tomorrow?

I've been reading way too much about node.js not to have played with it yet. You? Anyone know enough about it to present?

Good solid demos, and showed me some of the practical uses for the technology -- exactly what I was hoping for!

Very long for a meetup. Presentations need to be short and to the point, leaving room for questions to lead followup discussion

That was crazy good. The material could easily be spun into best seller.

What are the URLs for the various demoed sites (those of which are live/public anyway)?

I love to attend but I have some work I need to wrap up for tomorrow

I was hoping to present but my wife just had a baby (@AsherGreene) and I'm way too exhausted to do a good presentation. I was hoping to still come and enjoy the speakers tonight (I live a couple blocks away) but family members are coming to visit the new guy so I won't be able to make it.

I promised Greg I'd be up for a presentation in the near future and OPOWER will probably be interested in sponsoring.

Jonathan Altman is presenting as well as some folks from Dev Seed (eric, jeff, will, alex)

Out of interest, who is actually presenting? I can't exactly tell from the thread. Will be interested to discuss Node vs other server language choices (PHP, Ruby, Java).

We'll have pizza and the rolling meetup beer reserve (from WordPress, DCPHP, 4sqDay, etc.). If you're coming tonight, swing by Barrel House next door and grab a six pack to throw on the ice!

May have to cancel last minute on account of the weather, as I'll be walking. We'll see what it's like later.

Also, the DC Circulator (www.dccirculator.com) runs a route with a stop at 14th & P St NW.

It's like a 10 min walk from Farragut West/ Farragut North. I work at 1615 L street and it takes no time at all.

Thanks for the tips. After checking with a co-worker I'll probably metro in. 15-20 min walk from McPherson Sq maybe?

Here is a diagram of where our employees usually park for free (magenta is free; blue is metered): https://img.skitch.com/20110427-8aatd5nirx2kpaqt4hh31wu8e5.png There may be more residential parking on other side streets. Rhode Island to the left of 14th has rush hour rules, so don't park there.

Not super easy. I was over there last Thursday and found parking on the street a few blocks up. Not sure if there is better side street parking. Bring change as most spots had a meter that you are "required" to put money in until 6:30.

@mike Fairly. The area around Logan Circle is zoned residential, other than 14th St itself. There is unmetered parking on Rhode Island, on the East side of 14th. That is closest. Otherwise, check any of the spokes off of Logan Circle for more street parking. Meters on 14th are free after 8:30ish(?)

It was great having you guys at Fathom last time and we're looking forward to this one as well. Hopefully there is a bunch of beer left over from WordPress and DCPHP a couple weeks before.

I would be interested in co-presenting. I can see about hosting at OPOWER. We're on the Orange line at the Arlington, Court House station.

I built http://opowerjobs.com in Node. The source is on github: http://github.com/opower. I was thinking about starting a DC Node users meetup if there is enough interest.
