    2 questions:
I am planning on starting a super simple website to communicate interesting research to the public. I have some programming experience with scripting languages so using HTML and php to make a site isnt too much of a leap, but I am wondering if there is an easier way. This leads to a couple of questions:

    1. Does anyone know of a good 'how to' guide for starting ones own website (from getting the server to creating and updating webpages)? The idea is something detailed and informative, but still concise and for beginners.

    2. Do you happen to know a user-friendly web site development software that is free? The idea is that if there is a tool that will help me make pretty/impressive pages without getting bogged down with potentially complex php/java/html constructs, I would like to use it.

if nothing comes to mind, do you know a site or forum where I may find these answers?

I would say or .org which ever fits your needs. If you get other suggestions please share with me as I'm interested in the same. Mainly for listserv or forum based use. Thanks.

Interesting stuff you don't otherwise hear about. Time-dependent demos sometimes hampered by slow network.

Might be the best one yet! Genuinely important applications and missions - tech that makes for good beyond the Beltway.

Excellent venue, wide range of presenters, clear projection system, good audio except for no microphone for audience asking questions, and way toooo slow internet connection for demo's.

Not bad, most presenters needed to cut down on the amount of information they were presenting and slow it down.

Great opportunity to listen and learn!

We don't use the wall comment feature at DC Tech Meetup as it spams every one's accounts and we can't turn it off. Please use the Discussion Forum. ANY POSTS AFTER MY COMMENT WILL BE DELETED - AND IF THIS IS ABUSED YOU'LL BE BANNED. Thanks - and sorry for the heavy hand :)
