Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

I've gone on 4 DC UL trips (as of June 2016), 2 LM and 2 MO. Longest day was 20 miles. Coldest night was probably mid-to-low-40s-->I was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale so this is equivalent to the arctic for me. I hope to *slowly* condition myself for colder climates.

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

DC UL Trout Run Valley June 2016. It was fantastic! Jen did a great job coordinating. The weather was pretty hot in the afternoon but the group was able to get through 13/12 miles by 2PM both days so we beat the heat.

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

I have a ULA OHM 2.0, REI Quarter Dome 1-Person Tent, & Enlightened Equip 0-deg sleeping bag (1.3lbs) w/ Therma NeoAir Xlite Women (12 oz).

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

I'm pretty low maintenance and all about efficiency, so UL fits my values. My next purchase will likely be new shoes. Now that I've finished grad school, I'm looking forward to getting back in to shape (to pick up my pace) and get out there to see new places. There is so much to see and I'm ready to see it! :)

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)

I've got a stats-nerd brain & a heart & soul that call for the mountains.

What Beth N. is saying about this Meetup Group

Before coming to this group, the most I'd done was camp at Disney World with my parents. This group has been a resource for me to learn and explore. They travel and pack not just light, but smart--efficient. Looking forward to learning more and covering many miles with them.
