Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

I have done many multi-day and 8-10 day backpacking trips. The coldest night would have been -10 in Fort Drum, when I bumped into a group of lost Army troops out training.....can you say, "compass bearing?" Most memorable was the Tahoe Rim Trail.

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

A 10 day hike of the 100 mile wilderness of the AT and summit of Katahdin Mtn. Late August. I coordinated the trip with 100 mile wilderness outfitters to stay the night before and last night, shuttle return from Baxter State Park, and two food drops.

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

Six Moons Design Lunar Solo, EMS 40 degree quilt/Klymit air mattress and my pack is a Granite Gear Blaze AC60.

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

I have my pack weight as light as I want,...without sacrificing comfort. However, I am always looking to learn from others.

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)

I ran into your group on top of 3 ridges

Introduction

I am a half-crazed ex-road racing cyclist who has taken one too many falls on the pave'. A campfire and a comfy sleeping bag are about as good as it gets!
