Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

I've hiked the AT('04), the LT('11), most of the CT('15), and about 1700 miles of the PCT('06/'15). I've also mountain unicycled (munipacked?) the Continental Divide from Banff, Canada to Mexico('12). Between bigger trips I love getting out for the weekend or a few days, especially to WV. Currently, I'm section hiking the Allegheny Trail. Been getting more into trail running and fastpacking lately. Longest day with full gear is 40 miles. Coldest night was about -10F. That was rough considering I tend to be cold when it's in the 60's..

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

Spent the July of '15 on the PCT (Tuolumne Meadows --> Ashland, OR) and then hopped over to the Colorado Trail for a couple more weeks of hiking (Denver --> Silverton). The weather did what the weather does... It was cold, wet, hot, dry, sunny and cloudy with a slight chance of hail and rainbows.

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

My big three vary a lot as I'm always testing new setups and techniques. My go to 3-season bag is a WM Ultralight. For shelter, any and all YAMA Mountain Gear shelters. For pack, I've been using my top secret YAMA "wiggle pack" that's in development. Disclaimer, I'm the maker of YAMA gear.

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

I love connecting with others who share an appreciation for the outdoors.

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)

Ran into the group at Dolly Sods while out with some friends for a few days in summer 2014.
