Up & Running With AWS & AMI's in A Build Pipeline - Matt Brown(XAPP Media)

Agenda:

6:00 pm : Meet, greet, & eat

6:30 pm : Presentation

Talk Description:

Up & Running With AWS & AMI's in A Build Pipeline

XAPPMedia uses Amazon Web Services autoscaling services for deployments and needed to create a better build pipeline in order to improve continuous deployment. They ended up using Netflix's OSS tool Aminator to create AMI's as builds. Matt will be discussing XAPPMedia's AWS deployment strategy, why to use AMIs as build artifacts, as well as giving an overview of how to get started doing so.

Speaker Bio:

Matt Brown is the Lead Server Engineer at XAPPMedia where he is in charge of everything server related, from build/deploy workflows to speech recognition system improvements. He came to XAPPMedia from Dire Wolf Digital, a digital trading card game company in Denver, where he was the Senior Scalability Engineer specializing in designing and building scalable platform solutions for games. Before that, he was a Scrum Master for the healthcare division of Thomson Reuters. Matt graduated from North Carolina State University in 2010 with a degree in Computer Science.

Matt did a great job decomposing a complex subject that he repeatedly referred to as 'simple' but has obviously taken quite a bit of time and expertise to get right. I really like presentations that elaborate on the uses of opensource tools and especially those of Netflix. Great job Matt!
