On this day trip to Philadelphia, we will tour the infamous Eastern State Penitentiary in the Fairmount neighborhood. We will then walk around Fairmount Park, where you will see historic mansions and buildings, views of the Schuylkill River and Center City, and many walking trails and places to relax.
Eastern State Penitentiary is known as the first penitentiary in the world, which was designed with the belief that inmates would experience true regret for their crimes. We will take a one hour guided tour of this historic and famous correctional facility in the heart of Philadelphia. They will guide us through the history of the prison, the structures such as the towers and the punishment cells, and discuss historic inmates such as Al Capone. Important Note: Admission to Eastern State Penitentiary is $10.00. Attending the tour is optional for those who wish to see other places in the community or city.

7:30PM – 8:30PM Prepare for Return (at 30th Street Station)

-We will meet at Union Station at 8:00AM. We can all meet in front of the Starbucks in the Food Court.
-We will be traveling to Philadelphia through the MegaBus service. Tickets can be purchased online at www.megabus.com (http://www.megabus.com/) ($20 - $40 average for round trip).
-When entering website, schedule bus trip for 8:45AM - 11:55AM (Depart to Philadelphia), and schedule the return trip for 9:20PM - 12:20AM (Return to DC). The date of the trip is Saturday, April 13, 2013. Please be sure to enter information correctly, as MegaBus does not refund tickets; however, they will allow you to reschedule trip 24 hours prior to the scheduled trip date.
-Union Station is located at 50 Massachusetts Avenue, NE Washington, DC. Union Station is also Metro accessible on the Red Line at the Union Station Metro Station. Parking at Union Station is available at their parking garage; however, the maximum cost is $22.00 for one day parking.
