Free Screening of "Finding Vivian Maier"

Who is Vivian Maier? Now considered one of the 20th century's greatest street photographers, Vivian Maier was a mysterious nanny who secretly took over 100,000 photographs that went unseen during her lifetime. Since buying her work by chance at auction, amateur historian John Maloof has crusaded to put this prolific photographer in the history books. Maier's strange and riveting life and art are revealed through never-before-seen photographs, films, and interviews with dozens who thought they knew her.

This was a total bust. Despite queuing up more than 30 minutes in advance, the line of about 10 ahead of me and everyone behind were told they were out of seats. I'm surprised they couldn't have counted any earlier than having us wait a good 10-15 minutes before revealing that fact. I hope some people from the group got in, because to turn away all 50 would be awfully disappointing. I appreciate the offer for a free screening, but maybe this group should focus more on sports and other events they can handle better.

We actually don't host any of our movie screenings nor do we handle entry. We partner with the Production companies to give you guy access to these screenings, at the same time other organizations are doing the same.

I totally understand, and I've been both lucky and burned in the past, but usually as an in-house promotion or similar. For the sake of a Meetup group event, it seems like it might be wise to have a host with an alternative plan in case of a large group being rejected at the door. Instead, my guest and I just went for dinner nearby by ourselves, sort of defeating the purpose of making a Meetup event out of it in the first place. Better luck next time, I suppose!

I didn't get the e-mail either, and I checked my spam folder as well as my inbox.

Has an email containing the tickets been sent out yet? After RSVPing for this event I received an email that said see you at the event, but there was no link to click so that I could print out my tickets like I have with past events.
