Dear Group Members:

My name is Wil Gutierrez, a recruitment specialist for AFS Intercultural Programs USA. AFS is a non-profit foreign exchange organization for high school students. My job is to find host families for students who want to spend a year in the United States.  I specifically work with the state of Virginia and the surrounding states.  I am emailing you because I have 13 students who are coming to Virginia this August to study for a year. They are from Italy, Germany, Finland, Thailand, France, Japan, Ghana, Spain and Austria. Below you will find four short bios highlighting four of the students.  I would appreciate it if you would circulate them to anyone you think might be interested in hosting. If you would like to see the bios of the other students or have any questions about hosting with AFS, please do hesitate to contact me at the information below.

Student Bios:

Pascal from Germany (Congress/Bundestag scholar)

Pascal is very into sports and music.  He likes soccer, basketball, tennis, and riding his bicycle with friends. Music is a very important to him and he has been playing the guitar for seven or eight years and in a band for one and half years.  At school he is in a group called Students help Students where he gives private tutoring sessions to younger students. To earn pocket-money, Pascal gives guitar- lessons, private tutoring sessions, or by mows the neighbors lawns.

Wanrada from Thailand

Wanrada is studious and trustworthy. She loves spending time with her family. Wanrada has a dog that she loves to take for walks. Her two favorite subjects are English and Art. Wanrada would like to become a graphic designer one day. In her free time, Wanrada enjoys biking, cooking, shopping, and reading. Wanrada is very excited to be an exchange student.

Simo from Finland

Simo has been playing soccer for 3 years and would like to play in the U.S. He also loves listening to music. He enjoys playing card games such as the fantasy card game Magic the Gathering.  His teachers describe him as motivated and a good student.  Friends and family describe him as open, friendly, and well-liked. Since his parents are divorced and his mother sometimes works long hours, Simo is used to helping at home with shopping, cooking, etc.  (**slight allergy to cats but can live with them if they do not come into bedroom.)

Lavinia from Italy

Lavinia is described as a calm and intelligent individual. Lavinia is very close to her family, and especially to her younger sister. She is an excellent student and is dedicated to studying in order to achieve good results. In her free time, Lavinia likes to go to the cinema or shopping with her friends. She also enjoys reading a good book. She is looking forward very much to seeing new places and meeting new people during her year in the US! (**Has fear of dogs).

Thank you,

Wil Gutierrez
