Good Friday hike at Ft Ben

Ft. Ben offers lots of great trails that range from easy to rugged. This park is nice because it's so close to downtown, yet feels so far away from the city!

For this hike - we'll meet at the trail head of the Schoen Creek trail, which is near the parking lot by the visitor's center. This trail is 3.5 - 4 miles long and moderately rugged as it's also used as a mountain bike trail. Plan on this hike taking 2 hours with breaks.

If it is pouring rain, consider this event to be canceled. Entrance to the park is $5/vehicle. 2013 annual pass for DNR State Parks & Reservoirs is available. They are only $40 and are good from Jan 1st - Dec 31st.

Trail map is available online.

It was a beautiful day and nice long hike even with the mud. Ginger fell asleep in the car on the way home.

We had perfect weather and I enjoyed the longer hike. We had a great group. It was funny to see the littlest dogs leading the pack.

It was a nice day but a little muddy. Schnitzel needed a bath anyway!

Finally - a beautiful spring day! We did hit some mud, but the sunshine and 55 degrees made it worth getting outside!

Hey, sorry I missed you guys. I had never been there before, so I went to the Google maps address that is linked above. That was the inn, and they directed me to the park, and I just parked where I saw cars . I didn't realize you could drive to the Schoen Creek trail (it doesn't look like you can from the map), so I walked that way from the parking lot. It was pretty late by the time I got up there (I'm six months pregnant), but I saw all your cars. Then I walked back down and went home. :( Might want to leave better directions for newcomers next time, but at least I know where to go in the future. Hope you all had fun!

Wow! i am really excited for this! The FAQ link you shared says it will open sometime in 2013. Do you have any idea when?

the smallest, turf only section (A) may be open by summer, but I don't really know for sure.

I have wanted to go on this hike several times but have always had conflicting plans. I see that the RSVPs are closed but there are still spots left. If I show up without an RSVP will I be banned from the trail?!

I just sent a reminder out about tomorrow's hike. As a reminder, we'll meet at the trail head of the Schoen Creek trail. Follow the signs to the visitor's center and saddle barns. This trail is 3.5 - 4 miles long and moderately rugged as it's also used as a mountain bike trail. Plan on this hike taking 2 hours with breaks. If the trail it too muddy, Plan B will be to hike along the road and paved trails. I encourage you to bring water, doggie bags, and hiking boots. If it's pouring down rain, consider this event to be canceled. For anyone interested in an after-hike dinner, let's go to La Hacienda on 56th St. Several of us went there after our last holiday hike and it was very enjoyable!
