monthly hike at ft. ben

Ft. Ben offers lots of great trails that range from easy to rugged. This park is nice because it's so close to downtown, yet feels so far away from the city!

For this hike, we'll meet at the trail head of the Fall Creek trail, which is near the parking lot by Delaware Lake. This hike will be on the the Fall Creek/Camp Creek loop, which takes about an hour. This trail is moderately rugged as there are stairs and hills. We'll stop for breaks along the way and let any swimmers enjoy Duck Pond.

If it is pouring rain, consider this event to be canceled. Entrance to the park is $5/vehicle. 2013 annual pass for DNR State Parks & Reservoirs. They are only $40 and are good from Jan 1st - Dec 31st.

Trail map is available online.

Do you go into the actual park? We can't find the group

We met at the picnic tables next to the start of fall creek trail. We had to go into the park, $5 if no State Park pass, but it was well worth the $$, the trail was beautiful. Lori said next month's hike is on a different trail, so make sure and print out their instructions on where to meet everyone. I was asking everyone with a dog if they were there for the meet up hike, and they thought I was a crazy woman. LOL

Hi Karen and Buster, Next month's hike on Sept 8th will be on the same trail that we hiked on Sunday. We do special holiday hikes on a different, longer trail and right now those special hikes are being planned for Columbus Day and Veteran's Day. Watch this Meet Up group for announcements on those hikes.

Ha! Ugly is the same way with having to get to know a dog before she plays. it's small dog snobbiness for sure! See you soon!

I would love to meet Ugly. I've had chihuahuas as pets since I was a baby.

We had great weather and the trails were perfect. I enjoyed taking the new segment of the trail that opened up about a month ago. It was a new twist on the hiking route.

We had great weather and a nice group. It was wonderful to have some new folks and dogs attend. We enjoyed hiking on the new path that opened up last month. It was a nice way to finish the hike.

Hi Everyone. We have a very large group signed up for this walk and that's awesome! Because we have a large group we are going to start walking promptly at 10am. If you are running late it's ok, drive safely and join us as soon as you can. My husband Greg will lead and I will walk with the folks who need to take a slower pace. Because our group is so large we will need to be especially considerate of people who are using the same trails as we will. Let's yield the trail to others who are not part of our group who need to pass. If you are not able to make the hike please let us know by changing your RSVP before Sunday 9am so we know how many folks to expect. If you have questions don't hesitate to contact us via Meet Up before Sunday at 9am.

Me and my wife recently got a lab puppy and we want him very social. He is only 8 weeks old and we are not to sure what age we can start taking him out on activities like this any suggestions?

Hi Buster, We might be bringing a puppy that is 10 weeks old but we want to be sure that she can do the distance. This week we will gradually increase her walking time and distance to see if she can build up to walking one hour. This hike takes about one hour. Be prepared to carry your pup or take a short cut back to your vehicle if he tires. Otherwise, as long as he is current on his puppy vaccines, he is welcome to join us.
