Ride of Silence (Philadelphia)

This is a nation wide event to honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.

Philadelphia event is hosted by my good friend and coworker Ray Scheinfeld. This is how he describes the event.

The purposes of this silent ride are to honor cyclists killed/injured in motor vehicle related accidents and to raise awareness about the rights of cyclists to ride the roads. Five bicyclists have been killed in the Delaware Valley since the 2012 Ride of Silence and we will honor their memory during this year's ride. The ride is being held in the City of Philadelphia for the eight year in a row and in its 10th year since its inception. Last year we had about 250 participants and this year we are hoping to attract at least 500 riders to the event.

The 8 mile long route will start at the foot of the front steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum on the Ben Franklin Parkway. A brief pre-ride memorial ceremony will take place at 6:45 PM and the 11 mile per hour ride will start promptly at 7:00 P.M. It will proceed down the Parkway, circle City Hall, continue to Independence Hall and head over to West Philadelphia via the Walnut St. Bridge. The ride will return to the front of the Art Museum over the Spring Garden Street Bridge. The duration of the ride is expected to be 1 hour. Helmets are required and bicycle lights are encouraged.

So please come out honor those who have been injured or killed while riding.

If you can not make it to Philadelphia event their are other rides scheduled for the same time and date.
