Pow Wow, Camp Out, & Festival

  • This location is shown only to members

This adventure is a blending of discovery, culture, and the celebration of life. We will be camping under pecan trees by a fishing pond on private ranch land near the Pow Wow. Once you arrive on the property a snack will be ready for you. Put your belongings in the tents, then we’ll carpool to the ranch were the festivities will take place. Lunch will be at the Pow Wow. We encourage you to enjoy the Native American cuisine served by the vendors at the ranch or we'll provide you with a sack lunch. Once the days festivities end we will return to camp where we will enjoy a campfire and a Dutch Oven Dinner.  That night we will enjoy the peace and serenity of sleeping under the calm nights sky snug in our tents. Then with the sun a new day of discovery, culture, and celebration will begin. This adventure will conclude Sunday morning after breakfast.

We will be coming together to enjoy this campout and also the 1st birthday of Lightning Medicine Cloud, the very rare non-albino male buffalo calf. He was born on May 12, 2011 during a thunderstorm. Native Americans consider this to be a great blessing to the people.

This two day event will feature several champions in Native American dancing, music, art and crafts, Native American food and more, as an honor to Lightning Medicine Cloud and his message of unity and hope.  Participants come from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and

New Mexico.

The owners of the ranch both come from families that have made important historical impacts. One of the owners is the fourth generation descendant of Sitting Bull, holy man and Chief of the Lakota Sioux Indian Tribe.

We expect for those who choose to participate in this wonderful event to come with a warm heart and an open mind. We expect for everyone to be respectful of the beliefs and culture that may be different from their own. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderfully colorful celebration.

While at the Pow Wow there is absolutely no possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages, cut off sleeve shirts/ tank tops, and no shorts above the knee.
