About the keynote speaker: (from Amy)
I am deathly allergic to the synthetic fragrance & petroleum in typical candles. Being an avid gardener and cook, I knew it must be possible to create 100% natural scented candles. So began my quest to create the perfect, sustainable candle (with only $100 start up money!). Turns out, I'm not the only one who has been in need of non-synthetically scented candles! Thus began my amazing adventure as owner & "scentologist" of Vance Family Soy Candles. In the last four years, I've been able to support my family, other families, local small businesses & farms, and charities. I've had the honor of working with Jessica Alba in creating sustainable candles for her company, The Honest Company, as well as private & custom label candles for businesses, National Parks, and non-profits across the country. I've been able to pursue my love of travel and writing and incorporate this into my candle making as well as marketing (I got the privilege of giving my candles to the 2013 Emmy nominees as well as the 2014 Oscar ominees!). I am the only person/business ever, to be granted the license to use the copyrighted phrase, "Keep Portland Weird". Talk about humbling!
The last four years have been miraculous, humbling, & amazing and I look forward to many more years to come :-)
