2013 N.C. State University Young and Teen Writers' Workshops
Dear Eric,

I am an English faculty member at N.C. State and run an annual summer program for young creative writers sponsored by the Department of English. I'd like to get to word out to more parents of young writers and readers. I was hoping I could post something or email you a few words to pass on to your group's members. I figured that writers beget writers. At least, that's how it happened in my family.

Our workshops are intended for children and teens who already have a demonstrated interest in writing fiction, poetry, plays, and creative nonfiction or who have an enthusiastic desire to learn more about these kinds of writing. Classes are kept small and instructors are working writers and local university faculty. We're unabashedly geeky about our love of words and creating a supportive yet critical community.

The Young Writers' Workshop is for children ages 9-13 (or entering grades 4-8) and will run from July 8-19, 1:30-4 pm, on N.C. State's campus.

The Teen Writers' Workshop is for teenagers ages 14-19 (or entering grades 9-rising college freshmen) and will run from July 22-Aug. 2, 1:30-4 pm, also on campus.

Applications for the 2013 workshops are now open. Go to for more information.

Warm regards,

Laura Giovanelli
