Re: [dachshund-427] Impacted Anal Glands & Fiber Question

Sorry for those of you eating your breakfast right now....I know this
isn't too appetizing....

Always check with your vet before giving your dog any human product.
Sometimes they can have them, but sometimes not. Plus you want to
know how much to give.

Stacey, that's interesting! I would have never guessed that allergies
would have anything to do with rear issues... Food, yes, seasonal
allergies....? Puts some pieces together for Mom's stinky butt
Beanie, though.... With all his respiratory issues and all his hind
end odors....there has to be a tie there somewhere!

Sonny, I think the different treats could affect different dogs.
Different foods can make different dogs have issues. I don't know for
sure what foods can trigger or what foods can aid in the release, but
have heard (and/or read somewhere) that some dogs will benefit from
certain brands of foods due to the items in them (I think it's the
starches used in them....we'll have to check into it.) So I would
think even a variation of that diet with a different treat might cause
issues in some dogs.

And I do believe that draining the gland from the outside isn't as
thorough as from the inside, but it's "bad" enough doing that duty
(most people pay someone else to do it!) from the outside. I just
don't think I can take that extra step to learn how to do the interior
cleaning....I don't think my dogs would look at me the same way.....
They already aren't too fond of me touching them in "that spot." And
it really shouldn't hurt if done properly. Some like to put on a
show. ;)
