Needs a location
Hi there! One of our group members and fellow DataStaxer is presenting at a nearby meetup - though you might be interested.
It is hosted by the North Texas Data Management (DAMA) Group. Register here: https://www.meetup.com/North-Texas-DAMA-Meetup/events/263986820/
Details about event.
We will discuss the essential features, similarities and differences between the perspectives of what will be 'the database of the future'. The operational systems & analytical system of the future will not look like the past.
We are currently in a time that is considered the revolution of new databases. Cutting-edge data technologies span across NoSQL, key-value stores, graph databases, streaming, in-memory, distributed, replicated, etc.
Massive amounts of data exist in structured form, unstructured and schema-less. Programming models increasingly use functional programming idioms and languages such as Clojure & Scala
The session will also discuss the impact of modern hardware on database architecture. In the last decade years there have been significant improvements in processor cost, solid state storage, high performance clusters and cloud computing. The number of cores has increased significantly.
Unfortunately, the tools to build these kinds of operational systems are evolving, but immature & fragile. Systems that focus just on streaming neglect state, and vice-versa. Cobbled-together hybrid systems offer flexibility but are complex to develop and deploy. The superficially 'simple' task of connecting systems together requires both distributed systems expertise and tremendous effort to hammer down unforeseen production issues.
We will also discuss various use cases where this new approach can be applied to innovate at Scale.
