Mineral Wells - Weatherford - Mineral Wells 40 Mile Ride

New England Trip Prep Ride - open to all members of the Dallas Cycling Trail Riders and Weekend Pub Crawlers. This is a hybrid/mountain bike appropriate trail. It is not road bike appropriate. Current plan is to drive to Mineral Wells, bike to Weatherford, have a food/drink break, bike back to Mineral Wells. This trail is a Rails-to-Trails route so it is relatively flat, but there is a slight incline from Mineral Wells to Weatherford. Comments on the trail come from Traillink.com. I have not ridden this route personally. Thank you, Jake, for the ride recommendation.

This is a weather dependent date. If the Sunday, February 23rd looks like better weather, we will reschedule for that date.

Here are a couple of links to the rail trail i was talking about. After more investigation the route I was thinking about seems kind of rough. http://www.tpwmagazine.com/archive/2013/nov/ed_1_trail/

    February 14, 2014

I could meet you around the Galleria. Do you know where the Grand Lux is? It faces the tollway along Dallas Parkway. I could meet you there at about 8:15 or 8:30 if that would work or if you know a church in that area?

Remember to bring water - the water stations along the trail are shut off, presumably for winter weather. We will have water & Gatorade available at the Weatherford Trailhead.

I'm hoping to do a recon ride of the route before our group goes. If I do the ride in advance, I'll post an update of what we need to do/bring a few days before the ride.

more info: there's a $5 per adult entrance fee at trailhead; the only major crossing is at hwy 180; we'll pass 16 bridges, many scenic stops. i expect it'll take more than just 4 hours since (or hope) we'll stop at many scenic spots. i would like to check out (beforehand) the lunch options at Weatherford trailhead if anyone wants to come/drive there together.

    1 · February 2, 2014

    • Kim

I think the fee might have gone up to $7 this year.

What is the name of the route on the traillink site? I found one called Lake Mineral Wells State Trailway that runs between Mineral Wells & Weatherford and states the following:
"The Trailway is 20 miles long and ten feet wide. The two miles of surface from the downtown Mineral Wells trailhead toward the east is asphalt; the remaining 18 miles is finely crushed and screened limestone."
