  • A big thanks to everyone who made it out for our 4-year anniversary! Our very own @WhiskeyNeon created an audio/visual extravaganza in honor of the event. We also had a visit from the mother ship; a hearty thank you to @WanderingGlitch from AHA! for stopping by and giving a talk.

As a reminder, we are working with @DC214DFW, @ntxcsg, and @HackFtW to coordinate "Hackers at the Faire" on May 20th at Scarborough Fair in Waxahachie - https://www.srfestival.com/themed-weekends/ They can call it "Legends of the Sea" all they like, we know that it's all about the pirates, arrr... Congregate as you see fit, or meet up as a group at the jousting area around 11:30.

If that's not your thing, and you're up for a drive, there's BSides San Antonio the same day - http://www.securitybsides.com/w/page/116461301/BSides%20San%20Antonio%202017

Also, this is one of those odd months where the first Thursday is before the first Wednesday. Perhaps we should consider a (not so) hostile takeover of @HAHA (Houston Area Hackers Association) - https://www.meetup.com/Houston-Area-Hackers-Association/events/237520666/

Finally, @MoeBius has an expanded inventory of locks to challenge everyone in the lockpick village, and @c0mmand3rOpSec is always adding to what is already one of the best Capture-the-Flag events out there. Fun fact: Nobody has found all the flags! Can you?

Full disk encryption. So LUKS on Linux, FileVault on macOS, and Bitlocker or Veracrypt for Windows.

Have a friend asking me ... Does anyone know if a person can "encrypt data" that's already on a Passport external hard drive without removing the data & re-loading it into the passport ext hard drive..?????? I think it's the kind of passport ext drive that Does NOT ask for a password ( an older one obviously ) .... thank you for any / all feedback

There's no way to do this without overwriting the original file with an encrypted version.

Note: To those asking if we'll hack into things for them: Short answer, No.

    Longer answer, Fuck No!

To the NPCs: If you are in danger, call the police. If you are having a relationship issue, consult a counselor. If you have forgotten your password, contact service support.

To the Informants: Stop attempting to con, trick, entrap, cojole, or force others into commiting silly shit illegal acts to save your own neck, make some pocket change, or up your metrics. Instead of ruining that script kiddies life, I could be hiring him to do real work for real pay. We're actually protecting this nation while you're playing LARP and hurting others.

To our Members: There's always some level of this going on, but we've noticed an uptick recently. If someone asks you to commit an illegal act, let me or anyone else on the "leadership" team know as soon as possible. We'll heckle them, lead them astray, kick them out, and report them to law enforcement... in no particular order.
