Brights Family Campout

We are going camping! Make reservations with Texas Parks & Wildlife to join us!
Where: Tyler State Park (about 2 hours East of Dallas)
http://www.tpwd.state...
When: Friday, October 16 - Sunday, October 18 (staying 2 nights) Join us for one night or both! Check in time is as early as 2pm. My family will probably get there around 6pm.
What we will be doing: Tyler State park has a lake for swimming, fishing, and boating (boat rentals available). There are hiking and bike trails. We will have a group campfire with smores in the evenings, some fun activities for the kids and maybe even do some geocaching!
Cost: Entrance fee into the park is $3 per day for those age 13 and older. There are several screened shelters available for $25 per night. These shelter sites have electricity, water, a picnic table and fire ring. Tents are allowed at each shelter site as well. You can make your reservation online at ReserveAmerica. Here is a link directly to book a shelter for the dates we will be there. Click the "book now" button to set up a reservation.
http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/Tyler_State_Park/r/campsiteDetails.do?contractCode=TX&siteId=1114&parkId=175 Or you can reserve by calling the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department at[masked] Make your reservation soon because the sites fill up fast! If you don't get a shelter, you can always get a tent site or an RV site (if you are lucky enough to have one of those) and still join us! We should have nice weather in October and we will have a lot of fun! Please feel free to contact me with any questions. [masked]

This was a great first campout! I think it will definitely be an annual event!

It was great! Loved hanging out with our friends at the campfire. My boys had a blast exploring the campgrounds and riding around in the pedalboats and fishing off the dock. So glad we got to be a part of this event. We are all looking forward to the next camping trip!

David, you guys are welcome to set up tent on our site for Friday night. We will only have one tent for the four of us. So there is plenty of room for 3 more.

Up to 8 people are allowed at each site so sharing is a possibility for some. You can sleep in the shelter or set up a tent outside.

The shelters are all in Area 9. There is a group shelter area, which is area 10, but this was already booked. The sites are not reserved specifically, you just choose one when you get to camp. Once the trip gets closer, those attending can exchange cell phone #'s. The first family there can let others know what site # they got so those arriving later can choose one nearby. From the map, it looks as though they are all pretty close and the picture Jennifer posted shows that also Great pic!

is there a specific area that we should reserve a site. It would be nice if everyone were in a really close vicinity to one another. Like neighboring sites. Maybe we could reserve a few sites right next to one another that way if some one registered late and couldn't find a site then they could just set up a tent with the group area. That could also be the campfire base and such.

Is it possible to share a sheltered area with another small family? I'm not sure we need to stay in the shelter; we'll probably use our family tent outside. I'm also curious the location of other reservations so that we can get a shelter spot in a nearby area (not sure if they are relatively close or not).

I really hope that we can attend. My husband likes Geocaching, too!

I have not been to Tyler before, but I am told that the lake does not allow motor boats - only paddle boats, canoe, kayak, etc. Also the lake is surrounded by a sand beach. Sounds nice! I plan to have us "meetup" for campfire Friday night and then we can make plans for Saturday and have a campfire Saturday night. We will bring plenty of marshmallows!
