May the Fourth Be With You (campout at Lake Ray Roberts)

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....

A group was formed called the Dallas Brights.  They took many journeys and adventures together and it is time for another one!

Join us for a spring camping trip to Ray Roberts State Park.

Saturday, May 4th - Sunday, May 5th

Ray Roberts is less than an hour away from Dallas, so stay overnight or just come for the day.  Some of us are staying at the Lantana Resort,  a lodge facility in the state park (oh, who am I kidding...it's a hotel!)  Rooms are $85 per night.

Reservations for rooms can be made here:

https://reservations.foreverresorts.com/ReservationCalendar.do?propertyKey=10005

Those who would like the real camping experience can tent camp in the state park for $15-$25 per night depending on the type of site you want.  There in an entrance fee into the state park of $7 per day for those over 12 years old.

Reservations for tent sites can be made here:

http://texas.reserveworld.com/Home.aspx

There is a lot to do at Ray Roberts.  Hike and bike trails, fishing, boat rentals and swimming at the beach.

Read more about the state park here:

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/ray-roberts-lake

This short trip will be a lot of fun.  Hike through the Forest Moon of Edor and relax on the gold beach.

Have lots of fun, you will! May the Fourth be with you!

Tentative Saturday Schedule of Events:

12pm - Join fellow campers for a picnic lunch near the Beach

1pm - 4pm - Enjoy the waterside activites: Fishing, Boating, Swimming at the Beach

5pm - Campfire Dinner and Fellowship

7:30pm - Sunset Hike (meet at Hawthorne Parking Lot)

8:30pm - 10:00pm - Campfire (s'more making, storytelling, relaxing)

We had a great time! It was so nice to get away!

We're going to do lunch on an island if anyone wants to join. Go straight through site 3 to the lake and take a left around the shore. About 800 feet around the shore is the island with a narrow land bridge. We'll have our camp stove if anyone needs to heat things up.

My suburban is the first car on the right when you get to the Hawthorn lot. Take the concrete path that section and site 3 is the first dirt path on the left. Were playing at the lake. Tubes and markers on the table to make light sabers (may the fourth be with you!). Come join the fun.

We're in Hawthorn site 3. The place is packed, no adjoining sites, but this one is secluded and plenty big enough for everyone. Bring your chairs and folding tables may be good if you're cooking down here.

We're bringing a hands on dessert for all the kids to make - dutch oven monkey bread. Also, we have two flags to retire at our evening campfire. We'll be there tonight and will update with the campsites we get. See everyone tomorrow!

We will be fishing, so we will have a bunch of fishing gear. We will see everyone around noon for our picnic lunch! If anyone beats us to the beach area and can snag a few tables, let us know. Otherwise, we will grab them when we get there!

One of my kids has tutoring, so we won't be leaving dfw until 12:30.

Hey guys! There's a great biking trail (12ish miles round trip) from the Lantana resort to the Bluestem Grove/Hawthorn camp sites. Bridget and I will be ready to roll! Can't wait :D

      But yay, you're moving!

We registered 2 campsites in Hawthorne (some like minded friends joining us) so we'll try to get all three together to give us a big areas. We are likely going up Friday night. If anyone is interested, we're bringing the bikes. I can lead a bike ride with the kids if the trails are nice. For cooking - I have multiple camp stoves should anyone want to borrow one. And multiple tents if anyone needs one. The lake is not currently under a burn ban - probably won't change - we'll bring firewood for the evening.

I have booked a campsite in the Hawthorne area for our group to use for our campfire. Please check the meetup listing for a tentative schedule of events.

I won't know the campsite number until we get there and check in. Feel free to use the site for camping. This is where we will all gather in the evening.

We're going to get a campsite too - we'll be roughing it :-) If we can, I'll try to get a site next to yours so we can have a bigger area. We may go up Friday night.

I know there are no electrical/water camping sites left. There are a lot of water or no water sites left though.

Lake Tawakoni is great for hiking and biking. It is hard pack sand so even if it rains a couple of days before, then it is usually good to go

We are staying at the lodge!

I think we can come to this. My husband has to work that Saturday so he may or may not come. I will go make a reservation though. Are we going to plan on meeting up at a central location? People could ask for my campsite and meet there if we need a place to gather.

Also Dinosaur State park is only a couple of miles from the City of Glenrose where there are several nice motels for those that don't want to camp out.

Emerson and I will be there!

Booked a room! (We are wimpy.)

LOL! Why do you think we picked this place? True Dallas Brights style, going from tents, to shelters, to limited cabins, now to hotel. I wonder what we should plan next!
