Jan 27th Hands on Compressed Earth Block- CEB Build
Come on out and be a part of this historic 1st sustainable building made from compressed earth blocks at the Wildflower Ecovillage located in Greenville area of Hunt County, NE Texas area. You don't want to miss out on this great learning experience! Here you will gain valuable knowledge about earth building construction – specifically compressed earth block (CEB), which is a type of mechanized adobe made from natural earth and stabilizer pressed into blocks. Earth block walls are warm, breathable, energy efficient, soundproof, fireproof, bulletproof, bugproof, moldproof, long lasting (1,000+ years), non-toxic and renewable. We are currently working on finishing laying blocks for installation of the bond beams. You will learn first hand how to mix CEB mortar (similar but a bit different than typical masonry), how to lay and cut blocks perfectly, how to place a bond beam (wood and concrete) and much, much more. We will be teaching the methods of our CEB instructor, Jim Hallock of Colorado Earth who is highly respected in the field of CEB. Jim will return once all of the blocks laid to teach us how to do a bond beam on a slant for a shed roof. Dates/times are subject to change depending on if we can get enough people to work and the weather. Please email us at wildflowerecovillage@gmail.com with the dates you are able to attend. We will provide water. Please bring your own lunch and snacks as the nearest restaurants and stores are 10 miles away from the build location. Please, no small children or pets (unless official service animals) due to safety reasons as this is a worksite. Feel free to email us at wildflowerecovillage@gmail.com, our meetup page in Wildflower Ecovillage or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DFWEcovillage/ to let us know when you would like to attend and/or if you have any questions. Directions from I30 below (For those without or do not trust GPS): Exit Interstate 30 at Exit #104. On the North side of the freeway go to Lone Oak turn at Hwy 513. What we're about

Public Group

Meet other local people who are making their lives more sustainable--whether in leaps or tiny steps. We are interested in many areas of sustainable living: organic gardening, permaculture, raising backyard chickens, beekeeping, starting a green community, homesteading, lobbying our political leaders to create a more sustainable environment, climate change, peak 0il, and preparedness.

Most of us are urban or exurban dwellers who are trying to create a positive impact on our environment and develop varied degrees of self sufficiency. Some of us are also interested in creating/moving to a sustainable eco-community.
