Herb Spirals are one of many beautiful elements in a Permaculture Design. Usually located just off the kitchen, the Spirals provide a ready source of fresh herbs, and edible flowers, for cooking within just a few steps outside. Stacking functions, a Permaculture concept, the Herb Spiral provides a great deal of food while using only a very small footprint. The element provides shade for herbs that need it, and more sun for those more sun-loving plants. Further, it serves the needs of water plants, moist soil-loving plants, medium water and drought tolerant species all within an arm's length. Come learn the complete process of building an herb spiral beginning to end with other enthusiastic Permaculturists.
Bring work gloves, and any tools you might want to bring along... shovels, trowels. Remember your lunches and water.
Please arrive between 10:05 and 10:15 for debriefing about the yards and gardens, which must be done before class begins. There will be a 30 to 45 minute class on Herb Spirals by Margaux Khosraviani with a little health discussion by Richard Corey. From there, together, we will clear the grass and begin construction of the herb spiral in the front yard of Permaculture Denton. The class will begin promptly at 10:30 am.
PermacultureDenton will host this Front Yard Herb Spiral workshop Saturday, October 10th, 10:15 to 2:30 with an hour-ish break for lunch around 12:30 (bring your own lunch, please).
The workshop will be held at our Suburban Demonstration and Education site, 2809 Nottingham Drive, Denton, TX 76209 (the address number is on the curb in two places), just north of University Drive, and the yard has the Food Not Lawns sign close to the curb.
Early bird investment for this workshop is $5, by September 26th. Or $8 at the door.
This is a fun, educational, and inspirational event. Come be part of the community.
