This is a group designed for the discerning, ambitious writer pursuing mastery in their craft. Focused on literary fiction and artful memoir, this group provides constructive criticism and developmental editing on successive drafts of novels, memoirs, and short stories in a compassionate, meticulous, and thoughtful environment. Meetings with be three hours with a one hour lecture component, and then two sessions focusing on providing feedback to the students we are focusing on in the current session. Students will be asked to send us work a week prior to our meetings, so that others can come prepared with notes on their work. We ask for all participants to be encouraging, and to focus on the strengths of each piece, areas with energies that should be exemplified in further drafts. Craft books and examples of fiction and memoir will be optionally assigned each month. We will also pool knowledge about various opportunities in the educational and networking worlds, such as about in-person and online workshops, certificate programs, undergraduate and MFA programs, co-working spaces, and networking events that may be rich veins to mine in honing our skills. We will also support each other through the submission process, and share information about possible publishing avenues. The founder of this group is an author that has been published in The Heavy Feather Review, and Anti-Heroin Chic.
