What we're about

We're a group of fun-loving, friendly people who run regular dance events in Hobart, Tasmania. Most events have live music from amazing musicians from near and far. All dances are taught, and you'd don't need to bring a partner. Styles vary under the broad banner of "folk dancing", including contra dancing (from the US), Scottish dancing, Irish dancing, Regency dancing and good old Aussie bush dancing, to name a few. It's all about having fun, so it doesn't matter if you don't get the moves right. Just come along and give it a try! What you'll find is a great hobby that gets you fit as well as giving you a rip-roaring fun time, and it's all done with friendly, welcoming people who can't wait to meet you.

Regular events include Contra on the first and third Mondays of every month (except January and Easter, cos we're off at folk festivals then), a large dance on the last Saturday of each month between March and November (except Easter) which has a varying theme (costumes optional), and if that's not enough, there's Danceoholics on the second Friday of every month, where those of us who want more just do whatever dances we feel like.

Various Locations

This is something quite exciting we haven't done before: an entire weekend of music and dance, including an intimate concert on Friday night, the rollicking Rogue's Ball on Saturday night and a variety of dance and music workshops all day Saturday and Sunday. It's run by some fantastic international musicians and dance callers from the band Roguery, who are from the US (https://rogueryband.com/). Come along to all or part of the weekend. Early bird (cheaper) tickets available until the 31st of March here: https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=459473& Further detail on the weekend here: http://folktas.org/roguery/ Locations are different each day: Friday's concert is at a private house in West Moonah, Saturday's events are at Hobart Town Hall ballroom and Sunday's events are at Lenah Valley Community Hall in Creek Rd, Lenah Valley (next to John Turnbull Park). I will make individual MeetUp events for some of the events too, but won't "announce" them just yet so your inboxes don't get jammed!
