Fun, exercise and a great night out, making new friends, to the music of talented Hobart band As The Crow Flies!

All dances taught. No dancing experience or partner required. Non-dancers welcome to listen. Treat your ears!

Contra dancing is non-competitive, moderately aerobic and highly addictive. It’s a lively, social, swingy dance style from the USA, which has exploded in popularity in recent decades. This rapidly developing tradition is popular with all ages, including a vibrant university scene. Done to simple walking steps, it features flowing movements, lots of swings and twirls, a chance to dance with everyone and the opportunity for improvisation, including using your moves from Swing, Cajun, Tango and other dance styles.

All ages welcome. Dress and attitude: casual. Comfortable shoes.

If you’re not smiling, you’re not dancing!

Don't worry if only a few people have RSVPd to this event, because this group is just one arm of a larger community organisation. Usually about 20 people come to contra dances, which is intimate enough for you to get to know people and to receive some patient instruction, but big enough to have lots of different people to dance with!!
