R/DSDC meetup slides, PAW-GOV speaker request & more

Hello Everyone,

Thanks so much for coming to last Thursday's R/DataScienceDC meetup at Hellowallet. It was great talk by John and a great start to the DSDC group. Thanks again to our sponsors Hellowallet, Resonate Networks, The Washington Post and Revolution Analytics.

There are a few things I wanted to mention, so I apologize in advance for the duplicate mail-list.

1) The slides for the talk are here: https://github.com/johnmyleswhite/regularization_slides. They'll also be posted in the files section, as well as the video of the meetup. John will also send me the R code he used to make the quasi-animation
in ggplot.

2) The Predictive Analytics World - Government conference http://www.predictiveanalyticsworld.com/gov/2011/  will be taking place on Sep 12/13 at the Ronald Reagan building in downtown DC. Isaiah Goodall, the conference chair has offered to host an R/DSDC meetup at the conference on the evening of Monday the 12th after the conference reception. I realize it is short notice, but if there is anyone in either group that would like to give a talk, perhaps something R and/or Data Science government related  - given the audience - please let me know ASAP so we can get something organized if possible.

3) We talked about starting a group for competing in the different data mining competitions with the hopes of winning the $3,000,000 Heritage Health Prize on Kaggle. Please email me if interested to get that going.

4) Please get involved. We are working on the agenda for both groups in the coming months and are looking for speaker volunteers and ideas.

Thanks,
Marck
