What we're about

The focus of this Meetup group is to provide free monthly community data events, leading towards the annual Data Science Festival.

What is the London Data Science Festival?

2021 brings about the new and improved DSF Hybrid Festival for our 26K community members. Our virtual event will run the first four weeks of November, with our final day Saturday 27th November being in person. The live event will be at CodeNode near Moorgate in London.

About us

The Data Science Festival is a global data community. We aim to connect the data world and foster the sharing of knowledge, inspiration, and ideas.

The global network is dedicated to free education through grassroots technical events. We will cover the latest topics that matter most to data scientists and data engineers. There will be no demos that you can learn from a book or video, instead, our speakers will be discussing real-world problems, what works, what doesn’t work, and why they’ve implemented the solutions they have. They will generate lively discussion and debate, offering real-world takeaways to help you in your job.

Who is the Data Science Festival for?

• Data engineers, analysts, scientists, and other practitioners

• Academics, founders, researchers, authors

• R, Python, and other software engineers who work with data or want to learn

• Data visualisation developers and designers

• Non-technical team leads, executives, and other decision-makers from data centric startups and large companies looking to utilise open-source tools

How can I get involved?

Visit the DSF site to get involved!

We are actively looking for community-minded individuals to help build and grow our group, please feel free to get in touch if you would like to:

• Host an event

• Sponsor an event

• Present a session

• Volunteer to help organise the festival

🌴 Welcome back to #DIsummerschool 🌴
We are very excited to announce the return of the Data Idols Summer School!
A pilot programme was first launched in 2021, in partnership with the Data Science Festival. Attendees can join our Summer School each year to learn the basics of data science and kickstart their journey into this career. Join us this August 2022 and watch the sessions live or learn at your own pace later in the year!
In this Summer School event on Thursday 11 August 2022, Henrik Nordmark from Profusion will discuss Data Ethics - Mitigating Bias in Algorithms.
Session abstract: Mitigating bias in algorithms isn't easy - otherwise, we wouldn't see big leaders like Amazon fail time and time again. So how would we mitigate the main setback facing the ai world at the moment? The truth is, there's no black and white solution. And data scientists don't want to hear that, but it's vital to the success of the industry when building consumer trust. There are however some things that we can do to solve the situation, and that is what I would like to talk about.
Ticket Allocation Process:
Once registered through our event platform, you will be sent your schedule via email which you can add to your calendar. You will get sent a reminder email the morning of the event and 20 minutes before, with your URL link to join the event.

In this Summer School event on Thursday 18 August 2022, Matt How from Adatis will discuss Your First Data Science Project: Planning for success
Session abstract: Nowadays, software development projects are well understood and the frameworks for those projects are well standardised. But as more organisations are seeking success with data science, these project frameworks don’t always fit. The unique challenges of data science mean that a fresh approach to project management is needed.
