Thank you for your message Peter. I am now fully recovered and I'm looking forward to the next meet on the 24th.

Thank you all for coming last night - very pleased with the turn out and with the general buzz!

I'll get round to posting a summary of the evening together with the slides. In the meantime I've posted some of the URLs I showed in the Discussions area of our Meetup page.

The next meetup will definitely be on Tues 24th June at 7.30pm and will probably be a round up of data visualisation tools, and a few of you have already offered to speak for 10-15 minutes on your tool/platform of choice.

Thanks again and it was great meeting you all!

    Peter

Excellent, I look forward to attending that one! I've marked it on my calendar so I have no excuses this time around to not be able to attend.

Very late notice, but wondering if I could bring a colleague along tonight who is interested (subject to spaces)? Many thanks

Hi Natasha, yes please do bring your colleague along, there's enough space. See you later, Peter

I'm very sorry folks but I'm not going to be able to make it along tonight. I apologise profusely for the very late notice but I'm really not feeling well. I'm gutted not to be attending.

Gutted I can't make this tonight, but encouraged that there's such a strong community. See you at the next one.

Unfortunately conflicting priorities mean I'm going to have to skip tonight. Hope it goes well and look forward to hopefully making the next one.

    Hi all,

Very pleased to say we've 40 people coming this evening. This means that the venue will be full and unfortunately there's at least one person still on the waiting list.

So if you're now unable to come, please could you update your RSVP to not coming and it'll allow other people to come.

    Thanks and see you later,

    Peter

I won't be able to attend this one, as I am in the middle of a large project that needs all my free time. I will make every effort to attend the next one though!

Hello to those of you who've joined in the past few days - and thanks for joining.

I've a venue confirmed now - The Skiff in the North Laine area of Brighton (BN1 4EW). I'll give more details closer to the time.

My plan for the first meetup is for me to introduce myself and present some of my ideas for future meetups. To help us get to know each other, I'll then invite you to introduce yourself (basically who you are and speak a little about your interest in data visualisation). Following introductions we can then discuss ideas for the group.

I expect this'll last 1 - 1.5 hrs, and then we'll retire to the Eagle pub (just round the corner from the Skiff).

I'm hoping to run a meetup, be it a presentation, workshop, hack-evening or discussion once a month so if you have any ideas, or even better, would like to run a workshop/hack-night/presentation, please let me know!

    Looking forward to it!

    Peter

    Hello everyone,

We are organising a workshop on big data and data visualisation at the University of Sussex on the 3rd of June and there's still places available. Here's a short description:

A half-day workshop scoping big data issues for cultures and communities. Big Data and Data Vizualization is often understood as the terrain of Big Business and Big Government. This project is exploring how Big Data can be used by cultural and community organizations. This focus translates into the following questions: how can these groups gain access to big data sets, which data sets might be useful, what kinds of skills and expertise are needed to deal with big data and to use big data and data visualization techniques, and, what are the barriers to access big data? All welcome but places are limited: If you want to come along, please email me on [masked].

Apologies, I'm committed to a Self-Hacking/Quantified Self meetup in London at the same time.

Thank you and welcome to all who've joined - very pleased to see this level of interest so soon.

The first meetup on Tues 27th May is definitely going ahead - I'm in the process of sorting out a venue. I'm hoping it'll be The Skiff for an hour or so for introductions, then to a nearby pub. I'll keep you posted.

    Thanks again for joining!

Gigaom have a free webinar on Advanced Analytics on May 21st:
    http://research.gigaom.com/webinars/
FREE but you do need to register.
Most suited to people who want to know more about the "number crunching" that goes on behind the data visualisation.

Hi Beth - first of all, thanks for joining! Yes, please do share with Big Data Brighton. I've been along myself a few times and know one of the organisers (Peter). Looking forward to hearing more about what you do at Brilliant Noise.

Hi all, this is a brand new Meetup in Brighton for anyone interested in data visualisation.

To begin with it'll be good just to get together, probably in a nice pub in Brighton, and get to know one another. I'm sure we'll have some ideas for future meet-ups whether presentations, workshops or informal gatherings.

Let me know if you have any other ideas or even ideas for venues, otherwise I look forward to seeing you!

    Peter
