• #VizRisk Challenge: Open Build DC

    Needs a location

We are excited to partner with GFDRR, Mapbox, the World Bank, and Data Viz Society in this years #VizRisk Challenge. While this is a global event, data viz folks from the DMV area are invited to come together in a physical space to learn from each other and co-create. There will also be a video link for those who cannot attend in person. Please register for this event by going to: https://vizrisk-dc.splashthat.com/ Also, please visit the challenge's main website to learn more: https://understandrisk.org/vizrisk/ ####################### ### More Information ### ####################### Are you interested in data visualization? Do you want to learn how to use data viz to “see” disaster and climate risk, all while helping people make better decisions? Join the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) Labs team, Mapbox and the Data Visualization Society in a map and data design challenge, with the purpose of helping people understand and communicate disaster risk. For the 2019 #VizRisk challenge, we invite you to explore how maps and visualization techniques can help citizens and governments better understand and use data on natural hazards, exposure, and vulnerability. Work with real-world “risk data” to tell a visual story about disaster risk in a specific location. Create something that shifts the way people understand risk and prepare for disasters. Follow along with a community of builders and complete this four-part challenge, and compete for a grand prize and category prizes. The challenge runs from May 15 - July 15, 2019.
